The Whitney Stakes

A nice day of racing on the Saratoga card for Saturday.  Up for grabs is 2.1 million dollars in prize money spread over 5 stakes races, highlighted by the feature race, The Whitney Stakes, with a purse of 1.2 million.  The Whitney (race 9) is a Grade 1 Stakes race for three year-olds and up, run at a mile and an 1/8 (9 furlongs) on … Continue reading The Whitney Stakes

Day Twelve

On the 12th day of racing our favorite track gives us a card of ten races, split evenly between dirt and turf.  The track seems to be drying out from the soaking it took earlier in the meet, so we’ll be on  the lookout for highly rated speed horses in the sprints, and fast closers in route races.  Oddly enough, the feature race on Thursday … Continue reading Day Twelve

Green Monday

If you have been following the Daily Racing Blog, and our choices at the meet in Saratoga, (and why wouldn’t ya?) you realize, we’re doing okay so far.  But Monday was just down right scary good.  In seven of the ten races on that card, DRB‘s first or second choice Won the race.  Including the first seven out of eight.  And if you are a fan of … Continue reading Green Monday

Monday Fun Day

When professional Monday Night Football was introduced in 1970, there was a (conceivable) rumor which contended that the Monday night game was developed, and driven by Las Vegas.  The big betting houses lobbied to the NFL, and the league which was just in it’s infancy and not the behemoth it is now, thought it was a good idea.  Hence, gamblers from around the world have … Continue reading Monday Fun Day

Weather Or Not…

The races go on at Saratoga, and while Saturday was not an ideal day in regard to track conditions it was/is getting back to good.  There were a couple of races taken off the turf, but the feature turf race in the 9th, stayed on the grass and was won by DRB choice #5 GLORIOUS EMPIRE and paid $21.40 for a two dollar wager.  Overall it was a good … Continue reading Weather Or Not…

Jim Dandy Stakes

The Daily Racing Blog apologizes for not posting picks for Fridays card at Saratoga.  Just as well, as the the track was a quagmire again.  Saturday’s forecast is hot and humid with a 20% chance of rain.  It is a nice card on Saturday with Graded Stakes Races being featured in the last four races.  The highlight being the 10th and final race- the Grade 2, $600,000 … Continue reading Jim Dandy Stakes

Day Six At The Spa

Wednesday at Sartoga the rains never came, they ran on the turf, and the only mud to be found was on the face of the Daily Racing Blog.  So no more fearless weather prognostication, we’ll just stick to pony prophecy.  Speaking of which…our picks in the 7th & 8th races yielded a good return- if you boxed the first three choices in the 7th you would … Continue reading Day Six At The Spa

His Fodder Was A Mudder

Late in Mondays card at Saratoga, the rain began at the old course and there appears no let-up in the near future.  Saturday has the least chance of all day showers.  The forecast for Wednesday is rain and thunder storms.  So chances are pretty good that of the five turf races scheduled, four will be moved to dirt, and the weekly steeple chase (the first … Continue reading His Fodder Was A Mudder

Six Days A Week

The racetrack at Saratoga is the only thoroughbred track in the country to run races six days a week.   To use track vernacular, Tuesday is the dark day- no racing.  In most of the races there are always big fields- 8-10 horses, which make for nice pay-days when the favorite fails to win.  Granted, the Monday, and Wednesday cards aren’t the most talent rich fields … Continue reading Six Days A Week

Saturday In The Park

Saturday was not a bad day at The Spa for DRB.  In the Saturday feature races the post time favorites won both the Grade 3 Sanford as well as the Grade 1 Diana Stakes, so there was not a lot of value to be had there.  Early in the card scratches eliminated some of our plays, but some monies were salvaged.  As the adage says; “The race … Continue reading Saturday In The Park
