When professional Monday Night Football was introduced in 1970, there was a (conceivable) rumor which contended that the Monday night game was developed, and driven by Las Vegas. The big betting houses lobbied to the NFL, and the league which was just in it’s infancy and not the behemoth it is now, thought it was a good idea. Hence, gamblers from around the world have one more game to bet on, trying to make a “big score” on Monday night to make up for a lousy Sunday afternoon, while Vegas reaps the profits.
Why this preamble? Saratoga is the only racetrack in America to run six days a week- Monday being one of them. Horse players don’t need an extra day to try and ‘catch-up’. We have 10-12 chances ever day they run. No, Saratoga races six times a week because the New York Racing Association deems it okay. As long as the turnstiles move, and the track handle grows, NYRA milks its cash cow for all its worth. If the quality of the racing isn’t effected the Daily Racing Blog doesn’t mind, so here’s our picks for Mondays card.
