Who Wins The Alabama ?

The Grade 1, $600,000 dollar Alabama Stakes is Saturday at Saratoga Race Course. A field of six 3-year-old fillies are entered for the 1 1/4-mile contest on the main track.

Here is a brief look at the field:

1. NYCON [ML 20-1] Jockey: Dylan Davis. Trainer: Whit Beckman. Was a Maiden winner at Churchill Downs in her second start as a 2-year-old in November. She then was 2nd in a pair of Stakes races at Gulfstream Park in January and Aqueduct in February. In Graded Stakes she was a distant 4th in the Gazelle (G3) and was even farther back in the CCA Oaks (G1).

2. ATI GIRL [ML 10-1] Jockey: John Velazquez. Trainer: Bill Mott. Broke her Maiden in her ninth career start, which was at Saratoga in July going nine furlongs as the favorite in a field of seven. Her last four races came after moving to the Mott barn in March. She is the only filly in the field to race the 10-furlong distance, and she finished 2nd on that day in Kentucky. Mott has won the Alabama three times.

3. MEASURE [ML 8-1] Jockey: Flavien Prat. Trainer: Mark Casse. Got her Maiden victory in her third race at Churchill in November and finished 2nd in an Allowance at Saratoga in June. Her only attempt in a Stakes race was a 3rd in the CCA Oaks at 26-1. Casse won this race last year with NITROGEN.

4. MY GUN’S LOADED [ML 9-2] Jockey: Manny Franco. Trainer: Chad Brown. Began her career in December for Steve Asmussen and then moved to Brown’s barn. For some reason there are no workouts showing, prior to her Maiden victory in June at Saratoga, where she bested a field of seven. After that she stayed upstate and had four breezes before winning a one-mile Allowance by three lengths as an odds-on favorite. Both of those wins earned fast speed figures.

5. A.P.’S GIRL [ML 10-1] Jockey: Tyler Gaffalione. Trainer: Peter Eurton. She needed six starts to get her first victory, which came in January at Fair Grounds going two turns. She came right back to win an Allowance against a field of four. Her next two starts were in Stakes at Laurel Park, and she was a close 2nd in the Weber City Miss after having the lead in the stretch and then ran 3rd in the Black-Eyed Susan (G2). Last out, she was 3rd in the Monomoy Girl at Churchill Downs in June.

6. COUNTING STARS [ML 2-5] Jockey: Jose Ortiz. Trainer: Mark Casse. Won her two last races at Saratoga– the Acorn (G1) in June and the CCA Oaks (G1) last month. Facing the best of the 3-year-old filly division, she ran 3rd in the Kentucky Oaks (G1). As a juvenile she won her first race at Churchill by four lengths at 9-2 and then at Oaklawn she won a pair of Stakes races. In March, she got her first Graded Stakes win in the Fantasy (G2) after finishing a 3rd in the Honeybee (G3) at the Hot Springs track.

The Alabama Stakes is slated as race 11 on a card of 12, with a scheduled Post Time of 6:42.

Best of luck however you play it.
