The Fourstardave

Just like the horse for which it’s named, the Grade 1 Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga has come a long way since its inaugural running in 1985.

Originally known as the Daryl’s Joy Stakes, the race was renamed in 1996 to honor FOURSTARDAVE, a Saratoga legend who visited the local Winner’s Circle every year from 1987 through 1994.

That Winning streak earned him the nickname The Sultan Of Saratoga.

Over the last 36 years, the Fourstardave has risen from an ungraded Stakes worth $50,000 to a Grade 1 race carrying a purse of $500,000.

Along the way, it’s become a critical steppingstone toward the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile, producing Winners of that contest since 2012.

In fact, the Fourstardave awards a Win and You’re In berth to the Mile through the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series.

Entered in this years event once again is GOT STORMY who Won the race in 2019.

She is looking to become the second two-time Winner of the Fourstardave since recent Hall Of Fame inductee WISE DAN, who was Victorious in back to back years- 2012 and 2013.

This year’s Fourstardave drew a field of eight.

Contested on the inner turf course, it is run at a distance of one mile.

Saturday’s feature event is scheduled as race ten on a card of eleven. Scheduled Post Time is 6:15.
