The Grade 1, $1.25 million-dollar Travers Stakes is Saturday at Saratoga Race Course. The Mid-Summer Derby drew a field of 10 that features the winners of all of the Triple Crown races. 

Here is a brief look at the field:

1. EMERGING MARKET [ML 15-1] Jockey: Ricardo Santana Jr. Trainer: Chad Brown. Won his first two starts, including the Louisiana Derby (G2), which put him in the Kentucky Derby. In the Run For The Roses he contended in the early going and finished 6th. In the Belmont Stakes, he was mid-pack and a bit wide throughout the race. Last out he was 2nd in an Allowance after a rally from the back of an eight-horse field. 

2. LEADING CHANGE [ML 12-1] Jockey: Manny Franco. Trainer: Brad Cox. Won his debut at Churchill Downs by more than six lengths as the favorite in a large field. The $800,000 purchase came right back to win the Indiana Derby (G3) as an odds-on favorite after a prolonged stretch duel in a six-horse field. Cox won the Travers in 2021 with ESSIENTIAL QUALITY.

3. NAPOLEON SOLO [ML 8-1] Jockey: John Velazquez. Trainer: Chad Summers. Has a stellar record in Grade 1 Stakes, with a win in the Champagne as a 2-year-old and a Triple Crown score in the Preakness, and then he ran 2nd by a half-length in the Haskell Stakes (G1). Regular rider Paco Lopez opts to stay on BABY VINO, so Hall of Famer Johnny V. will be in the irons. Velazquez has won the Travers three times most recently in 2024 with FIERCENESS.

4. THE PUMA [ML 8-1] Jockey: Javier Castellano. Trainer: Gustavo Delgado. Got the only victory of his career on the Kentucky Derby trail in the Tampa Derby (G3) as a Maiden. Three weeks later he had the lead in the stretch in the Florida Derby (G1) and missed by a nose. Following a layoff, he was 4th in the Haskell. Castellano is the leading rider in Travers history with seven wins, gets back on board.

5. RENEGADE [ML 3-1] Jockey: Tyler Gaffalione. Trainer: Todd Pletcher. Won twice on the Derby trail in the Sam F. Davis and the Arkansas Derby (G1). In the Kentucky Derby, he rallied from far back to finish 2nd by a neck after looking like a winner. He skipped the Preakness to run in the Belmont Stakes, where he was 3rd. Pletcher gave him two months between races, and he won the Jim Dandy (G2) against a small but talented field. Pletcher has won the Travers three times.  

6. OCELLI [ML 20-1] Jockey: Edgar Zayas. Trainer: Whit Beckman. Is still a Maiden after 10 starts but finished in the top three in the Wood Memorial (G2), the Kentucky Derby and the Ohio Derby (G3). He has the most earnings of any Maiden in racing history. Last seen he did not do much running on the sloppy track in the Haskell.

7. SEA STRIKE [ML 5-1] Jockey: Flavien Prat. Trainer: Chad Brown. Won his first race in April at Aqueduct as a heavy favorite. Then he had a disappointing 5th-place finish in an Allowance with an overflow field in June at Saratoga. He bounced back when he won the Curlin by more than eight lengths, earning the highest Beyer Speed Figure in the Travers field. The Curlin Stakes was restricted to 3-year-olds who had not won a Stakes race, so the Travers presents another class challenge.

8. BABY VINO [ML 10-1] Jockey: Paco Lopez. Trainer: Lindsay Schultz. Comes here on a three-race winning streak that began at Oaklawn, when he got his Maiden score in his fifth career start. Monmouth Park became his next training base, and he won the Pegasus by almost 11 lengths and then upset the Haskell with 28-1 odds when he rallied fearlessly up the rail. 

9. GOLDEN TEMPO [ML 5-2] Jockey: Jose Ortiz. Trainer: Cherie DeVaux. Won the other two legs of the Triple Crown with a pair of closing rallies from the back of the fields in the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes. He was 17 lengths behind in the Derby and got up by a neck at the end of the 10 furlongs, and in the Belmont, he was last in the field of nine and prevailed by more than a length. His speed figures have gone up in each of his six starts.

10. SILENT TACTIC [ML10-1] Jockey: Luis Saez. Trainer: Mark Casse. Won his first start as a 2-year-old at Woodbine and then ran in a series of Stakes, never missing the money. He won the Southwest (G3) on the Kentucky Derby trail and ran 2nd in the Rebel (G2) and Arkansas Derby. He missed the Derby with a foot injury and had a four-month layoff. Last out he had the lead in the Jim Dandy but faded to 3rd.

The 157th edition of the Travers Stakes is slated as race 13 on a massive card of 14 with a scheduled Post Time of 6:35.
