The New York Racing Association canceled Wednesday’s racing at Saratoga Race Course, and closed the track to the public after torrential rains soaked Saratoga Springs and the Capital Region.

Wednesday was set to be the return of a five-day race week for the 2026 season.

It was also set to be the second annual Make-A-Wish Wednesday, offering local Make-A-Wish Kids and families a day at races.

Saratoga Race Course got more than four inches of rain overnight and another two or more inches were expected Wednesday.

The National Weather Service placed the Capital Region under a flood watch Wednesday through 9 p.m. Eastern.

A NYRA press release said Wednesday’s feature race- the $150,000-dollar Curlin will now run Sunday, with entries to be taken from Wednesday.

All ticketholders will be contacted by the NYRA Box Office about refunds or exchanges, and Aqueduct Racetrack was also closed for simulcasting Wednesday.

Live racing is slated to resume Thursday at Saratoga with a nine-race program. First post is 1:10 p.m. Eastern.

Prior to Wednesday, the last full card cancellation due to weather occurred on August 9th, 2024, as a consequence of heavy rain and high winds from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby.
