Keeneland Race Course celebrated its 86th anniversary of racing on Friday as the 2022 Fall Meet kicked off at 1:00.
The 17-day meet which runs through October 30th promises excitement from start to finish, highlighted by a meet record $6 million dollars in Stakes purses, as well as an expanded stakes schedule of 22 races.
The Fall Meet breaks from the gate with its signature Fall Stars Weekend, October 7-9, featuring many of racing’s stars making their final preps for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
And Breeders’ Cup eligible horses running here won’t have far to travel as the BC is being held at Keeneland on November 4th and 5th.
Ten Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In races will be held at Keeneland this fall, nine of which are slated for Fall Stars Weekend.
The centerpiece of Friday’s opening program was the 71th running of the $400,000 dollar Darley Alcibiades (G1), which was Won by Mark Casse trained WONDER WHEEL.
The Fall Meet at Keeneland runs Wednesday through Sunday until October 30th, with no races on Monday or Tuesday.
This year, attendance inside the track is capped at 20,000 people. Senior Director of Operations at Keeneland, Kara Heissenbuttel said; “We Just to make sure that our fans have an optimal race day experience. It really helps to be able to know how many fans are coming in each day so we can make sure that we’re staffed and ready to take care of our crowd.”
