Home Stretch To Christmas

SANTA CLAUS (foaled in 1961) was a British-bred Irish trained race-horse and sire.

As a three year-old in 1964 the dark-coated bay stallion had his best year on the turf.

His most notable achievements were Winning the Irish 200 Guineas Stakes, as well as the Epsom and Irish Derbies.

These Victories (in part) earned SANTA CLAUS the 1964 British Horse Of The Year award.

SANTA CLAUS, no doubt, brought a lot of joy (and cash) to older boys and girls throughout his racing career.

But one can only imagine the joy of the fans in the grandstand when, as the horses turned for home and charged down the stretch, the track announcer would get to bellow over the public address system; “AND HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS !

We’d love to hear the legendary (retired) NYRA track announcer Tom Durkin make that call.

The DAILY RACING BLOG would like to wish all our loyal followers and their families a very Merry Christmas.
