The Breeders Cup Juvenile

The BC Juvenile has been a part of the BC race schedule since the event began in 1984.  It is a race for two year-old colts or geldings, run on dirt, at a distance of a mile & 1/16th.  It’s purse this year is two million dollars, making it the richest juvenile race in North America.

Typically it is the first time that the best two year-old colts from the various racing circuits (think New York, Kentucky, California) will face off against each other.  It’s not uncommon that the winner of this race is given the Eclipse Award for best two year-old male horse.

The Juvenile can be a good indicator of who some of the following years Triple Crown front-runners will be.  The top two or three finishers in this race are usually hailed as Kentucky Derby contenders.  That said, only two BC Juvenile winners have gone on to win the KD – those being; STREET SENSE in 2006, and NYQUEST in 2015.  (pictured is last years winner GOOD MAGIC)

The possible entries for this race are many, and the field is not ready to be announced.  It’s normally run with a full field of fourteen.  Once the field is set, and post positions drawn, the Daily Racing Blog will offer some insight, and wagering suggestions.  So come on back.
