Week Five

Only twelve days of racing remain at The Spa, in what seems to be one of the wettest meets in recent history.  Wednesday’s forecast in Saratoga calls for a chance of showers throughout the afternoon.  Not sure how that will affect the turf races, we have to wait and see.

When making our selections for turf races the Daily Racing Blog does not consider the horses entered for the Main Track Only, (MTO in your program) with the hope that all the scheduled turf races will be run on that surface and not on the dirt track.  But come race day, if the turf course is deemed not firm enough to run on, then many of the entrants will be scratched and the MTO’s become eligible to run, and DRB has no MTO choices.

So DRB will take a leap of faith, and assume the Wednesday races scheduled for the grass, will stay on the grass.  With that, here are the selections.

1st:  #4 ML 5-1.  #7 ML 10-1.  #5 ML 9-2.  #6 ML 7-2.

2nd:  #4 ML 10-1.  #1 ML 20-1.  #3 ML 4-1.  #6 ML 7-5.

3rd:  #1 ML 12-1.  #10 ML 4-1.  #5 ML 3-1.  #3 ML 7-2.

4th:  #6 ML 6-1.  #9 ML 7-2.  #7 ML 5-2.  #5 ML 9-5.

5th:  #5 ML 20-1.  #2 ML 4-1.  #6 ML 7-2.  #4 ML 2-1.

6th:  #7 ML 15-1.  #9 ML 6-1.  #2 ML 5-2.  #4 ML 2-1.

7th: #3 ML 10-1.  #6 ML 8-1.  #8 ML 5-2.  #7 ML 10-1.

8th:  #4 ML 8-1.  #6 ML 3-1.  #5 ML 7-2.  #1 ML 8-5.

9th:  #1 ML 30-1.  #5 ML 6-1.  #8 ML 8-1.  #9 ML 5-1.

10th:  #2 ML 7-2.  #1 ML 20-1.  #3 ML 12-1.  #4 ML 3-1.

Speaking of leaps of faith, race one on the Wednesday card is the steeplechase, always fun to watch, but difficult to handicap.  When in doubt, bet the European horses shipping in to Saratoga.  The feature event is The John’s Call, in the 9th race.  It is a mile and 5/8ths in distance, run on the turf course.  It is for three year-olds and up, who will be vying for a purse of $100,000.  As always, good luck and good value.
