Sure, the purses aren’t as big, and most of the horses aren’t of the same caliber as ones raced Thursday through Sunday- seemingly. Because plenty of champion horses have broken their maiden at Saratoga on a Monday card. The most recent being BIG BROWN back in 2007. Owners and trainers always want to run their horses at Saratoga, (regardless of the day) to try and win at the most fabled track in the country. So be on the lookout for the up and coming talent…as well as value. Nine races are scheduled for the Monday card, and the weather forecast claims a dry week ahead. Alas, the Daily Racing Blog will once again assume the track will be fast and the turf will be firm- and usable. So here we go.

Monday is Saratoga Umbrella give-away-day. Every guest through the turnstiles receives a free red bumbershoot, emblazoned with the Saratoga Racetrack logo. Seems appropriate, albeit a couple of weeks late, given all the rain that’s been had at The Old Spa. So here’s hoping for clear skies and sunshine the rest of the way. Best of luck and value.
