Who Wins The Bluegrass Stakes?

The Bluegrass Stakes is Saturday at Keeneland Race Course. The Bluegrass is the marquee event at the Spring meet in Keeneland.

The $1.25 million-dollar, 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-old Kentucky Derby hopefuls drew a competitive field of nine for the 102nd edition of the race.

The Blue Grass distributes the Derby qualifying points to the top five finishers on a 100-50-25-15-10 scale.

Here is a brief look at the field:

1. TALKIN [ML 12-1] Jockey: Joel Rosario. Trainer: Danny Gargan. flashed some ability at age 2 with a debut win in August 2025 at Saratoga and a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes. He’s been well-beaten in two Stakes races since. He must improve significantly in his second start of the year just to be in the mix for a top three finish.

2. CLASS PRESIDENT [ML 3-1] Jockey: John Velazquez. Trainer: Todd Pletcher. The Rebel Stakes winner has been consistent and fast in three lifetime starts, dominating the opposition in his December 2025 debut before finishing 2nd in the Swale Stakes in January at Gulfstream and then winning the $1 million Rebel on March 1st. As accomplished as any horse in the field he will probably still need to improve his Speed Figure to win here- which is a a strong possibility in his fourth career start.

3. GREAT WHITE [ML 15-1] Jockey: Alex Achard. Trainer: John Ennis. He makes the transition from the all-weather surface at Turfway Park to the dirt main track at Keeneland for the Blue Grass. He posted two wins in three starts at Turfway, including a victory in the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes in February. His pedigree seems to indicate there’s a good shot he can make the transition, and he figures to be doing his best running late with a realistic shot to finish in the money at a nice price.

4. REAGAN’S HONOR [ML 5-2] Jockey: Jose Ortiz. Trainer: Cherie DeVaux. The probable Blue Grass Stakes pacesetter enters his Stakes debut with a positive buzz about him after back-to-back dominant wins in 1 1/16-mile races at Fair Grounds. He’s plenty fast to be competitive, but he faces his first test moving up in class test against Stakes competition in a Grade 1 race on the Kentucky Derby trail. It is a significant hurdle even for a naturally gifted racehorse.

5. CREOLE CHROME [ML 8-1] Jockey: Tyler Gaffalione. Trainer: Joe Sharp.  He ships in from Fair Grounds having competed exclusively against state-bred runners in four starts at the New Orleans racetrack. He’s 2-for-2 as a 3-year-old and enters the Blue Grass off a runaway 6 ¾-length victory in the Louisiana Stallion of the Year Star Guitar Stakes. The quality of competition he faces Saturday seems out of his league, but his Speed Figures indicate he is not overmatched.

6. FURTHER ADO [ML 8-5] Jockey: Irad Ortiz Jr. Trainer: Brad Cox. This GUN RUNNER colt ran 2nd in the Tampa Bay Derby on March 7th. That was a solid comeback effort after more than three months off and should be a race he can build upon. He is an established Graded Stakes winner with a victory on this racetrack.

7. OCELLI [ML 30-1] Jockey: Joe Ramos. Trainer: Whit Beckman. He is cross entered in the Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct, so… He is winless in five starts to date and finished 6th in his two starts against Stakes competition- the Sam F. Davis and the Virginia Derby. It’s hard to imagine him reaching the Winner’s Circle for the first time against the best competition he’s ever faced.

8. MOONSTROCITY [ML 30-1] Jockey: Jose Morelos. Trainer: Jena Atonucci. After an 8th-place finish on turf in his first career start at Gulfstream Park, he then finished 3rd in a one-mile dirt race at Gulfstream in his final start prior to the Blue Grass. He’s the slowest of the nine horses entered and faces a very difficult assignment in his Stakes debut. He should be the highest odds in the field.

9. OTTINHO [ML 20-1] Jockey: Flavien Prat. Trainer: Chad Brown. Was also cross entered in the Wood Memorial but has committed to the Bluegrass. He ran 3rd in his career debut November 23rd in a one-mile race at Aqueduct before winning at this 1 1/8-mile distance at the New York track in late December. He made his first start on the Derby Trail in the Withers Stakes in February at Aqueduct and finished a distant 3rd. This group is better than the field he faced in the Withers, but he could vie for a spot in the trifecta.

The Bluegrass Stakes is slated as the final race on a card of eleven with a scheduled Post Time of 6:25.

Best of luck however you play it.
