The 2026 edition of the Pegasus World Cup Day at Gulfstream Park is Saturday, January 24th.
The event is the winter season’s first truly monumental day of racing and wagering.
Pegasus World Cup Day is one of the year’s premier days of Thoroughbred racing that features seven Graded Stakes races with total purses of more than $5 million dollars.
The feature race is the 3-million-dollar, Grade 1, Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes, which brings together many of the best older (4-year-olds and up) horses going 1 1/8 miles on the main track.
This year the Pegasus World Cup adds to its prestige by becoming a part of the Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In Challenge Series, which gives the winner an automatic berth into the $7 million-dollar Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The Pegasus World Cup has a stellar nine-year history, including the recent versions of the race run under current conditions with a $3 million purse.
The inaugural running of the Pegasus in 2017 Won by ARROGATE featured a $12 million dollar purse.
The purse of the race topped out at $16.3 million when GUN RUNNER Won it in 2018. It was the final race of his career and came just days after he was honored as Horse of the Year for 2017.
In 2021 KNICKS GO Won the Pegasus and went on to Win the 2021 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar and was also named Horse of the Year.
Another indication of the importance of the Pegasus on the annual Grade 1 calendar- the Winner of the 2024 Pegasus World Cup– NATIONAL TREASURE, was named the Winner of the Eclipse Award for Top Older Male of 2024.
NBC Sports will broadcast the featured races on national TV live from 4:30-6:30 p.m. ET. Full-day coverage will be available on FanDuel TV.
