Santa Hoofs

SANTA CLAUS (foaled in 1961) was a British-bred Irish trained racehorse and sire.

As a three-year-old in 1964 the dark-coated bay stallion had his best year on the turf.

There is no doubt that, back in the day, SANTA CLAUS brought a lot of joy (and cash) to the older boys and girls that believed in him.

His most notable achievements were Winning the Irish 200 Guineas Stakes, as well as the Epsom and Irish Derbies.

These Victories (in part) earned SANTA CLAUS the 1964 British Horse of the Year award. It’s not certain if milk and biscuits (cookies) were his prize.

Although SANTA CLAUSE had a short but distinguished career, (records indicate that he did indeed race more than once a year) his legend lives on all over the world.

And one can only imagine the joy of the fans in attendance on the days he raced, as the field turned for home, horses charging down the stretch racing for the wire and the track announcer would get to call out; AND HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS !

We’d love to hear the legendary (retired) NYRA track announcer Tom Durkin make that call.

The Daily Racing Blog would like to wish all our loyal followers and their families a very Merry Christmas.
