Live racing returns to Fairgrounds on Thursday (11/20) as the New Orleans racetrack hosts its 154th season.
The 2025-26 meet will encompass 70 race days that run through March 22nd.
As always, the winter session at Fairgrounds offers racing fans and handicappers some of the best wagering to be found.
The track will unveil a renovated paddock area for the 2025-26 meet as well as a new lounge overlooking the paddock and several other upgraded amenities for those in attendance.
The historic track located in New Orleans’ Mid-City neighborhood of Bayou St John will continue its celebrated traditions which attract large, festive crowds, including the 101st running of the Thanksgiving Classic on November 27th.
The Fairgrounds will offer up 70 days of racing, highlighted by 56 Stakes worth a total of $8.65 million dollars.
Headlining those Stakes are some of the most important races on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. The track’s Stakes program for next year’s crop of 3-year-olds always builds a lot of interest in the meet.
It begins with the $100,000 Gun Runner Stakes on December 20th, continues with the Grade 3, $250,000 Lecomte Stakes on January 17th, then on Valentines Day the Grade 2, $500,000 Risen Star Stakes,
The Derby preps at Fairgrounds conclude with the Grade 2, $1 million dollar Louisiana Derby on March 21st.
The jockeys’ room is loaded with A-list riders from around the country and plenty of good horses are on the grounds representing many prominent trainers.
High-quality racing on a day-in and day-out basis is guaranteed throughout the meet.
