SANTA CLAUS (foaled in 1961) was a British-bred Irish trained race-horse and sire.
As a three year-old in 1964 the dark-coated bay stallion had his best year on the turf.
There is no doubt that, back in the day, SANTA CLAUS brought a lot of joy (and cash) to the older boys and girls that believed in him.
His most notable achievements were Winning the Irish 200 Guineas Stakes, as well as the Epsom and Irish Derbies.
These Victories (in part) earned SANTA CLAUS the 1964 British Horse Of The Year award.
And while his was a short but distinguished career, one can still imagine the joy of the fans in attendance when the field turned for home, horses charging down the stretch racing for the wire and the track announcer would get to call out; AND HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS !
We’d love to hear the legendary (retired) NYRA track announcer Tom Durkin make that call.
The Daily Racing Blog would like to wish all our loyal followers and their families a very Merry Christmas.
