The 2020 Kentucky Derby trail returns to Aqueduct Park on Saturday for the Grade 3, $250,000 Withers Stakes.
The race is held each February at Aqueduct Race Track. It was first run in 1874 at Jerome Park Race Track and had been run at several tracks since, before finding a permanent home at the Big A.
It is a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds that awards points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.
The Winning horse earns 10 points toward qualifying for the Derby. The runner-up rates 4 points, third place finisher gets 2 points, and fourth place get 1 point.
The Withers is the Derby trail’s fourth official stop in New York after TIZ THE LAW Won the Champagne (G1) in Octobert, while SHOTSKI prevailed in the Remsen (G2) back in December, and INDEPENDENCE HALL scored in the Jerome Stakes on New Years Day.
On Friday the Daily Racing Blog will take a look at this eight horse field with Post Positions, Morning Line odds and analysis. So be sure to stop back.
