Moving On

The May 18th Preakness Stakes (G1) won’t feature the major principals from the Kentucky Derby (G1), as the disqualified MAXIMUM SECURITY and default Winner COUNTRY HOUSE will skip Pimlico.  That said, the middle jewel of the Triple Crown will still offer plenty of intrigue, and Value.

Beaten KD favorite IMPROBABLE, who was elevated to fourth, is already confirmed for the Preakness.  Other Derby runners in the mix are the official seventh-placer WAR OF WILL (the horse most affected by MAXIMUM SECURITY), WIN WIN WIN (9th), and the Maiden BODEXPRESS, who checked hard on the far turn and ultimately finished 13th.

Here then is a preliminary list of Preakness probables:

There will be no Triple Crown on the line when the horses break from the gate at the Preakness.  The casual race fan has already moved on.  Television viewership will be down, as will the betting handle for that day.  But the race will go on.  Track officials at Pimlico are expecting a full field of fourteen runners, and we can only hope for a fast, dry and safe track on race day.

The Daily Racing Blog will begin to profile these likely starters in the coming days.  So be sure to stop back.
