NEW YEAR’S DAY is a bay horse with a narrow white stripe, bred in Kentucky by Clearsky Farms. He was sired by the Irish-bred stallion STREET CRY, who won the Dubai World Cup in 2002 before becoming a very successful breeding stallion.
In September 2012, the yearling colt was consigned to the Keeneland Sales where he was bought for $425,000 by an ownership group headed by Gary & Mary West. He was then sent into training with Bob Baffert.
NEW YEAR’S DAY (foaled April 22, 2011) Raced only as a two-year-old before his career ended due to an injury in December of 2013. He made the most of his short time on the track earning a little over a million dollars, while winning two of his three starts, including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. After his injury he was retired to stud at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms in Kentucky.
