Gold Cup Race Chart

We here at the Daily Racing Blog aren’t big on chest thumping and/or self-aggrandizing.  DRB is happy that we have a growing audience, and shall keep on providing you information on the wonderful world of thoroughbred horse racing with the hope that it entertains, as well as educates you.

That said, we hope you took our advice on the Jockey Gold Cup, this past Saturday at Belmont Park.  After we listed the field of eight horses, we mentioned that the Morning Line favorite DIVERSIFY would be hard to beat, but at odds of 4-5, DRB would look elsewhere for better (and bettor) Value.

It was then pointed out that we preferred two other horses, DISCREET LOVER, and THUNDER SNOW, as alternatives to the chalky favorite.  Well, as the race chart pictured above indicates, the return on investment was better than the S. & P. 500.

A two dollar Win, Place, and Show wager on both of those horses paid out a total of $141.30.  A $2 dollar exacta box ($4) with them paid $598.  So the ‘Across The Board’ bets on both ($12) and the $4 exacta box makes it a $16 dollar total wager.  If you did this, you got a lot of bang for your buck with total winnings of $739.30!

Did luck play a part in this windfall wager?  Probably.  But it doesn’t take luck to understand that there is no money to be made betting short priced favorites.  We at DRB will keep making Value plays.  You keep checking in with us.
